|
|
Meeting arrangements:
Meet at 10 for 10.30 am. Please bring pack lunch. Meet in car park of
White Lion Hotel, Patterdale, Ullswater on the A592 NGR NY397158
Event programme
Morning: Visit to Glenamara Park which lies just below St Sunday
Crag on the Helvellyn massif. This historic park is surrounded by an
amazingly intact old high wall and encloses some superb ancient alders,
apples, bird cherry and hazels and specialities such as old phoenix birches
in a mosaic of other valuable habitats. We will discuss the management of
the site and in particular the grazing regime. Site management is helped by
Environmentally Sensitive Area Tier 2 payments and the Rural Development
Service is monitoring the outcomes. Beautiful views of Ullswater – if
weather allows!
Afternoon: Subject to time a visit to Glencoyne Park – another
important historic and ancient tree site, just along the valley, managed by
the National Trust. Also in ESA Tier 2 payment scheme. Here we may see other
species such as ancient pollard wych elms, ash and some recent tree work.
Parking at Aira Force so we should see the waterfall too!
Please book online for this event. Bookings
taken separately for the two days to allow flexibility for people unable to
attend both days.
Everyone welcome but please book so that we know you will be joining us
and can let you know if the arrangements change at short notice. Click on
the booking form button above. If the form doesn’t work please send in an
email to
the ancient tree forum with your contact details via this web site. |
