Garden Moths Count

Find out what moths are in your own backyard and help wildlife conservation!

Garden Moths Count is an exciting nationwide survey, in which everyone can take part, to discover which amazing moths live in our gardens. The 2008 Garden Moths Count is now over and the results are available (see below), but the event will return in 2009. Meanwhile, you can still use the information here at any time to learn more about moths and about how to find and identify them.

Why take part?

  • Moths are beautiful, fascinating and surprising
  • Moths are a major but overlooked part of our garden wildlife
  • Moths are vital for feeding birds and pollinating plants
  • Moths are in trouble and need our help
  • Moths can tell us about our own environment

Our Moths Gallery has photos of the 20 target species to look for and we will show you simple ways to find moths.
